So I live in WI which usually has beautiful whether but right now we are in the middle of a hot and yucky drought, which consequently has gotten me to stay in my nice air conditioned house and read books. Books are my life and always have and up until now i have decided to keep my thoughts on them secret, but the hot weather is melting my brain so I thought I would start up a book review blog however disastrous that might be. So without further adieu here is my first ever book review!

                                         Title: Jinx By meg Cabot
                                   published by Harper teen 2007
Rating: 4 and a Half Stars

Jean Honeychurch hates her boring name (not Jean Marie, or Jeanette, just . . . Jean). What's worse? Her all-too-appropriate nickname, Jinx. Misfortune seems to follow her everywhere she goes even to New York City, where Jinx has moved to get away from the huge mess she caused in her small hometown. Her aunt and uncle welcome her to their Manhattan town house, but her beautiful cousin Tory isn't so thrilled. . . .
In fact, Tory is hiding a dangerous secret one that could put them all in danger. Soon Jinx realizes it isn't just bad luck she's been running from . . . and that the curse she has lived under since the day she was born may be the only thing that can save her life.

The book starts out with Jean a.k.a Jinx moving to Manhattan to live with her aunt and uncle. Upon arrival she meats her new and "improved" cousin tori, spits a long island ice tea on a very hot guy and almost gets killed by a bike messenger. This it seems is a fairly normal day for Jinx and the book continues from there with jinx acclimating in a new school and going head to head with her slightly insane cousin named tori. Throughout the novel Jinx has to deal with fact that she may be a witch however unlikely that my sound and that her cousin tori wants her powers.
personally loved this book I thought it was charming and fresh and while predicable in some places it was also very sweet and short.
The things I loved about this book were:
Meg Cabot does a great job at creating characters you can really relate too and even root for. The best thing about this book is perhaps the romance between Jinx and Zack her ridiculously hot next door Neighbor. There chemistry if off the charts and there fun witty dialogue is enough to make you want more, even after the book is finished.
the writing style has a very light and fun look to things and definitely draws you in to the world of jinx with her slightly awkward but cute personality.
What I didn't like about this book:
Meg Cabot has a habit of writing characters who are completely oblivious to the fact that a boy likes, them however obvious it might be. This while cute at first gets tiring pretty quickly to the point where you want to slap jinx for being that dim witted.
The other thing I did not enjoy so much was the pretty predicable plot and the slightly black in white characters. Take the main antagonist for instance. Tori is a character who could have turned out be a really interesting personality with conflicting forces inside her, but in the end she just turns out to be a cold hearted crazy bitch. I found that rather disappointing as I feel like there could have been some really great scene exploring more the deep side to Tori's personality.
                                                                  Overall:
All in all I loved this book, while it is not without it's drawbacks i thought her writing style was fresh and interesting and the characters where people you relate too and wanted more of. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a light fun read!
